    Better than the first one

The first one was great don’t get me wrong – but I definitely enjoyed the writing and plot in this one more! Millie in the first book made me cringe at some points. But she was an absolute legend in this book. Love this series, has me roped from the start!

Exciting read that is fast paced throughout

This is the 2nd in a trilogy. I had read the first and enjoyed it so was looking forward to the second. This author has written more than 20 novels so, if they carry on being good, then I’d got lots of reading to do.This was first published in 2023. The book has 327 pages split into 74 chapters. This is written in the first person and gives a conspiratorial edge to the narrative which is a delight to read. The narrators (there are two) are always trying to hide something from someone and it’s great being the reader as we usually know what is going on.It’s useful to have read the first book but not essential as the author gradually reveals Millie’s secrets as the story goes on.This author has a confidence which shines through her writing and I felt I was in safe hands. Of course, the plot is ridiculous but that doesn’t matter as this is delicious fun.The twists and turns are cleverly written. Unusually for a novel, none of the characters are particularly likeable but that adds to the enjoyment. The book is a fast paced read which speeds up towards the end. It’s great fun but won’t stay in my head for long. There is some violence but it is controlled and appropriate, making this an exciting read.

Loved it as much as the first

I’m always a bit sceptical about a series of books & the second not being as good as the first but it was great, full of twists and shocks, loved it

    Millie to the Rescue?

A brilliant sequel to the Housemaid, this one definitely had a twist. McFadden has a really talent for pulling you along and letting you think the story is going in one direction, then swerving you at break neck speed in the completely opposite direction. Her books are like a rollercoaster and she doesn’t let you catch your breath until it’s time to get off at the end. Millie is a heroine that rescues other women along with herself. And even though Enzo is on hand to help, he isn’t the catalyst, she is, and it’s so good to see a woman in that position.I hate every time I have to put these books down; if I had my choice, I would sit with them and go cover to cover. Now then, time to dive into the last in the trilogy…

    The Housemaid’s secret

3.5 rounded up – it was enjoyable however it definitely wasn’t as good as the first one!

    Easy, disposable fiction.

This is an easy read. Short chapters, not a bad plot – but the twists aren’t shocking, you can see them coming to be honest. This does not have the surprise impact of its predecessor, “The Housemaid”.The main characters remain fairly shallow, which isn’t a total criticism. The book is not lengthy and I guess that expanding the characters would slow the pace somewhat. This isn’t a deep and meaningful novel by any means. It’s an easy sort of holiday read, it’s not complicated, no concentration required. It’s not one I’ll remember terribly well in the coming months.

    Brilliant Psychological Thriller!

When I read THE HOUSEMAID I was completely enthralled by the utterly believable plot, so much so that I had to ration my reading time, otherwise I would have finished it much too quickly. I have just finished reading THE HOUSEMAID’S SECRET and I absolutely loved it. This wonderful author builds up the tension beautifully and the subtle humour is a great touch. I am really looking forward to reading the last book in the series, after which I shall purchase more books from this fantastic author.

    Finished in one sitting….absolutely gripping!

Fast-paced and full of twists! I couldn’t put it down—read it all in one sitting. Gripping, suspenseful, and so satisfying. Freida McFadden nailed it

Much the same as the other books in this triology

It was OK but this is one of three and the books are all very much the same.
